Minneapolis Draft is an alternate Cube Draft designed for 2 players to draft with some amount of hidden information that also involves navigating drafting packs against the other player that emulates a traditional booster draft better than other two-player draft formats.. This format uses a Cube divided into 8 Packs of 7 Cards each per player (112 Cards).
Creating the Cube:
- Cube of Cards: 112 Cards
- Divide these into 7 card packs
- Typical Rare distribution would be 1 per pack
- Include a Location per pack
- Optional - set rules for the rare and uncommon quantities
- Have each player create a 56 card pool
- Each player divides their pool into 8 Packs of 7 Cards
- As in standard draft, a Group pool of Unlimited Locations should be available.
Drafting the Cube:
Once the packs are created, randomly deal 8 packs to each player. The Draft Proceeds as follows:
- Each player simultaneously opens 1 pack, without showing the contents to the other player.
- Each player selects 1 Card from their pack.
- Players swap the current pack with the other player
- Each player selects 2 Cards from the pack.
- Players swap the current pack back with the other player
- Each player selects 2 Final Cards from the pack.
- The remaining 2 cards are set aside.
- Repeat this until all 8 Packs are drafted
- Players may now swap cards to add as many Unlimited Locations from the group pool as they desire (or as agreed).
- Play 40 card draft WARS as normal.
This format is based on an article for MtG from StarCity Games.
