Format: Cube Draft

Cubes are a way to recreate the sealed drafting experience without purchasing new sealed product.  A Cube is created from a large pool of cards and then packaged into "boosters" to then be drafted.  A variety of themes and fun ideas can be integrated into cubes such as limited factions, limited rarity, set restrictions and so on.

Overview

Cubes are a fun alternate format.  When constructing a cube, you and your group should communicate and establish the rules and guidelines you wish to follow. If you are creating a cube for an event, be sure to clearly communicate the rules and guidelines before the draft begins.

Standard Cubes

For the most standard cube, organize a sufficient pool of cards. The majority of these will be common. The aim is to recreate the traditional booster experience as best as possible.  Small, opaque style envelopes can be useful to initially hold your "packs".

It is recommended to organize a Group collection of Unlimited Locations for use during cube draft play.

  • Sort cards by Rarity (Common, Uncommon, Rare)
    • It may be desirable to set Locations aside to ensure an even spread as well
  • Shuffle the card types well
  • Distribute them into your "packs":
    • 1 Rare
    • 3 Uncommons
    • 10 Commons
    • 1 Location

Draft

Standard Draft rules should be followed typically.

Deck Construction

Each player then has 30 minutes to construct a deck.  Deck construction rules are modified for Draft/Cube play:

  • Decks will be 40 cards exactly
  • Normal 4 copies of card title limit does NOT apply
  • Players may add any number of Unlimited Locations from the Group Pool
  • Remaining draft cards should be set aside in a "Sideboard"
    • If playing in rounds - players may alter decks from their Sideboard between rounds or matches.

Having Fun

Cubes are a great way to explore different ideas in play.  You should come up with weird and zany ideas to mix things up and explore concepts.
